THE MILK BOTTLE ECOMMERCE SHOW · 9 EPISODES

SEO & Content.

SEO for Shopify stores in 2026 is more demanding and more rewarding than it's ever been. The demand side has intensified: AI Overviews in Google are changing how informational queries resolve, and the merchants whose content is cited are the ones who've invested in authoritative, well-structured content at scale. The technical side has also raised its bar: Core Web Vitals are a ranking signal, mobile-first indexing is the default, and structured data is increasingly the way machines extract information from pages.

On the opportunity side, Shopify's SEO fundamentals are solid: canonical URLs, clean URL structures, fast CDN, and automatic sitemap generation. The work that differentiates one Shopify store from another is in the content layer and the technical details. Blog content that actually answers buyer questions — not just product-page keywords — drives the top-of-funnel traffic that converts over time. Category pages with editorial content rank for category queries that product pages can't. And structured data (Schema.org markup) gives search engines and AI systems the entity signals they need to understand what your store is about and who it's for.

Google Analytics 4 and Search Console are essential tools for understanding what's actually working. The migration from Universal Analytics to GA4 broke historical comparisons for many merchants, but the event-based data model in GA4 is genuinely more flexible for ecommerce attribution. The merchants who've done the work to set up GA4 correctly — with enhanced ecommerce events, conversion tracking and audience exports — have a real advantage over those still guessing.
